Care guide

Quick ID

Heat-loving sprawling annual. In black pots here to warm the root zone (Draper's season is short). Sugar Baby is the icebox short-season pick; Crimson Sweet is the larger classic.

Growing & Watering

Needs heat and consistent water while sizing fruit; taper water as melons ripen to concentrate sugars. Black plastic / warm sites speed ripening.

Harvest

Ripe signs: the ground spot turns creamy yellow, the tendril nearest the fruit dries, and the rind dulls. Watermelon does not ripen off the vine.
