Fig
Black Mission fig — deciduous fruiting shrub/small tree. Cold-marginal here; grown in a pot so it can be moved to shelter, or heavily protected in ground over winter.
Care guide
Black Mission fig, grown in a black pot here (Zone 6b is marginal — the pot lets it move to shelter for winter). Deciduous; can fruit twice (an early breba crop on old wood, a main crop on new wood).
Cold-marginal — overwinter the pot in a garage/shelter or wrap heavily. The black pot also warms roots to push the crop in our shorter season.
Even moisture in summer (pots dry fast); ease off late season to harden wood before cold. Light spring feed only — too much nitrogen gives leaves, not figs.
Pick when fruit softens, droops, and the skin colors fully; ripe figs don't ripen further off the plant.
