Perennial. Works in full shade with consistent moisture. Strong fit for the fully shaded retaining wall bed. Use as an "indicator plant" for moisture stress — wilting or crispy leaf edges signal the bed needs more water.

Requires consistently moist soil. Especially sensitive to drying during bloom formation.

Growing season: Keep consistently moist (indicator plant for bed moisture levels). Late fall or early spring: Cut back old foliage. Every 3-4 years: Divide for vigor.
